This post is a full review of my experience at the Biohacking Conference, hosted by Dave Asprey, in Dallas, TX. I’m grateful that a media VIP pass was provided to attend this amazing experience. 

Hi friends! How are you? I hope that you’re having a wonderful morning so far! I’m back in Tucson after an inspiring and transformational trip to Texas last week to attend the Biohacking Conference.

To be totally honest, I’ve been feeling pretty blah about fitness and health conferences lately. There hasn’t been anything that’s caught my eye, and usually conferences are a chance to learn more about what’s happening in our industry, and light a fire of inspiration. Conferences can be expensive in terms of travel, attendance, childcare, hotel, etc., and I haven’t seen anything that looked particularly worth it lately.

Then, I was ad targeted for the Biohacking Conference, hosted by Dave Asprey, and I immediately knew that I wanted to go. The lineup of speakers included so many of my favorites, and I’m a huge fan of Dave.

Sharing the books I read in May and if I’d recommend adding them to your collection.

Hi friends! How are you? I hope that you’re having an amazing morning so far. I’m back from Dallas – I’ll have my first post about the Biohacking Conference live tomorrow! – and the kids are at camp today. It’s a full morning of podcast interviews and then I’m hopping on the Peloton in a bit.

For today’s post, I wanted to share a list of the books I read last month (and in April!). I haven’t had as much time to read lately, but I’ve been trying to make time, since I have about 12 books in the queue right now.

I’ve been doing an exciting mentorship through EquiLife and also studying for the High Performance Health Certification (my code is FITNESSISTA if you’re interested in checking it out).

I managed to read a few books over the past couple of months and wanted to share the goods here! I would love to hear what’s on your summer reading list if you’d shout it out in the comments!

Justin has a curse: every woman he dates finds her soul mate immediately after they break up, and thanks to a Reddit thread, this is now widely known. When a woman with the same issue contacts him, they devise a plan to date and then break up to cancel out their curses, hoping to find their true loves afterward.

I’ve been a huge fan of Abby Jimenez for a while, and couldn’t wait to read this one. It did not disappoint! Her books are the perfect mix of witty banter and heartwarming romance.

Today I’m talking about my #1 favorite mode of exercise that I recommend to almost everyone: walking. Read on about the benefits, how to start a walking routine, why it’s important to walk every day, and how to change up your routine.

For today’s post, let’s talk about what I truly consider to be the *best* form of exercise. Are there other amazing modes? YES. But if everyone (who has no physical limitations or medical conditions that are contraindicated for this) could walk, I think it would have such a positive impact on physical and mental health. Walking is one of my non-negotiable activities every day. Even if it’s a short 10-15 minute stroll around the block, I feel more centered, energized, and sleep better when I’ve gotten in a daily walk. Maisey also loves daily walks and is less destructive when she’s gotten out some energy. 😉

In today’s post, I thought I could share some ideas on how to start a walking routine, some tips, health benefits of walking, and ideas to change up your walking routine if it’s already a consistent part of your life (YAY). I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, too!

Meditative Benefits

My therapist told me that walking can similar benefits for the brain as meditation. It’s the repetitive movement of your feet on the pavement that calms the body’s sympathetic system (the “flight or fight” response) and can help with anxiety, depression, and mood. (Of course, if you suffer from anxiety or depression, please seek out the help you need. Walking can be a great complement to traditional therapy, but isn’t a substitute.)

Cardiovascular Benefits

Walking for 30 minutes each day can decrease risk of stroke, heart disease, and diabetes.

It’s extremely functional

I want to be able to walk for as long as possible, and the best way to do this is by walking frequently and training the muscles that support walking. As far as functional everyday movements go, walking is high on the list, and if you don’t use this skill as you age, you can lose it as the muscles atrophy and bone density decreases.

Increased Calorie Burn And Reduced Body Fat

Walking can be used to increase overall calorie burn and reduce body fat. While the actual amount varies from one person to the next, walking at a rapid pace for 30 minutes can help you burn about 150 more calories a day.

10 Healthy Sides For Salmon
