Friday Faves 10.20

Hi friends! Happy Friday! How was the week? I hope you had a great one. What’s going on this weekend? We have an event for the girls’ school, Trunk or Treat, and we’re celebrating the Pilot’s bday a little early (and yes, his favorite cake is on the menu). I’d love to hear what you have going on!

Workwise, I’ve been doing a ton of functional testing for clients lately. As much as I love workout programming, this is close competition for being my favorite work-related task. I LOVE going through all of the data and creating custom action plans. I put on some binaural beats, sprawl out on the PEMF Go Mat (my code is FITNESSISTA15), and go through EVERYTHING. If you’ve been curious about functional testing as a 1:1 client, please let me know; I have three spots left as we wrap up 2023.

It’s time for the weekly Friday Faves party! This is where I share some of my favorite finds from the week and around the web. I always love to hear about your faves, too, so please shout out something you’re loving in the comments section below!

(pics to an art show we attended by the Boys and Girls Club. I got the sweetest greeting cards and a javelina painting for P’s room! Dress is here and P is still loving her Vivobarefoots.)

I can’t publish this post without saying that my heart has been extremely heavy for the past week. I get a lot of emails and DMs when horrible things happen, demanding that I take “a side.” You guys know I’m not an expert on world events, and that’s not why you’re here. At the same time, it feels inauthentic for me to post as if nothing has happened, even though it is complex and I know I’ll never know the *right* thing to say at times like this. I tend to internalize and pray; it’s how I am and always have been. For what it’s worth, I stand on the side of humanity. For children and families. For innocent lives lost. I’m praying for peace.

Hi friends! Happy Friday! I’m writing to ya from the weirdest blog setup I’ve had in a while. Half of the keys on my keyboard stopped working, so I bought this plug-in keyboard. The keys are huge and make a loud sound, but it’s working until I can get to the Apple store for a new Mac. I can’t believe I’ve had this one for 8 years!

What are you up to this weekend? We have a birthday party and family photos. I still haven’t planned out anyone’s outfits but it should come together on the fly 😉 I’d love to hear what you’re up to!

What has made you laugh lately?

This is one of my favorite songs to wind down to at the end of the night. I listen to it on my headphones as I do my pm eye mask 🙂

I’m not sure if I’ve shared this book yet, but I should be finishing it up this weekend. I LOVE it. The writing is quick and witty, the story is intriguing and fun, and it makes a perfect early fall fluffy book. Highly recommend.

This book arrived yesterday and I’m so excited about it! Can’t wait to add some new recipes to the rotation.

Love these posts for classic outfit combos.

This blazer is still one of my faves!

Hi hi! Happy Friday! The weekend is heeeeere. What are you up to this weekend? Liv has a dance camp, I’m subbing a Zumba class (Latin Cardio since I’m no longer certified but talk about a blast from the past), teaching barre, and we’re meeting up with friends for dinner. I hope you have a lovely weekend, too!

(I don’t go wild with Halloween decor but I love these little touches around the house! Our giant Jack is definitely the most exciting thing we added to the collection.)

Liv and I watched Dumplin’ on Netflix the other night and loved it. I’ve seen it previously but have been introducing her to new movies. Some of the ones we’ve watched together and have been hits (with strategic fast forwarding when necessary lol): Titanic, 13 Going on 30, Mamma Mia, Sweet Home Alabama, Miss Congeniality, Devil Wears Prada… let me know if we should add any to the list!

Fashion + beauty:

This gorgeous Tanaor bracelet that was a gift from the company. The entire Bible is nano-printed onto a chip, that’s implemented on all of their designs. It’s so unique and would make a lovely Christmas gift!

Beautycounter holiday is out! ! SO excited for the holiday collection.

Thoughts on a Monday

Hi friends! How are you? I hope you had an amazing weekend! I’m sorry I disappeared on ya for Friday Faves. We got our stair railing replaced (it looks amazing!) but they had to spray the clear coat as the final step. We left the house because I didn’t want everyone to breathe in the fumes. I had Maisey with me all day and we went to juice with a friend, picked up the girls at school, and spent the rest of the afternoon at madre’s house. Thankfully by dinnertime, the smell was gone, and the stair upgrade has made a huge difference in our entryway.

What were you up to this weekend? Any fun fall activities?

Thoughts on a Monday

I’m feeling a little all over the place today, so just thought I’d share some random thoughts on a Monday.

– Fall candle season is officially here!

This is one I picked up recently and it smells like a dream:

Fall candle season

– Halloween Decor

We also decorated for Halloween and have this 13-ft Jack Skellington to greet delivery drivers and eventually trick-or-treaters. 😉

– Hot Yoga Class

I took a hot yoga class the other day and was thinking about the Bikram yoga days of yore, which was my original intro to hot yoga. When we lived in Valdosta, I’d occasionally drive two hours with a friend to take Bikram classes in Jacksonville, and loved taking them when we would visit Orlando or Atlanta.

While Bikram the person has a pretty icky backstory – the Netflix documentary is wild, and unfortunately not super surprising – the Bikram yoga method also has me raising my eyebrows two decades later.

It makes me cringe to think that the rooms were CARPETED (hi mold and germ city), and during one of my first classes, I was publicly shamed for drinking water before Eagle pose. Also, an instructor once told me that if I breathed through my mouth during class, it would turn my teeth yellow. And I believed her lol.

Hi hi! Happy Friday! How was the week? We’re on Day 5 of our community detox and the feedback so far as been amazing! I’m doing 21 days for the first time, and I already feel SO good. I could see/feel a lot of inflammation in my face, and it’s already gone. My energy is better, sleep has been better, and it doesn’t feel daunting at all. (Even though I’ll be ready for some chocolate when this is all over.) If you’d still like to join, you can order your kit here and use FITNESSISTA10.

One of my dinners from this week: shrimp and veggie stir fry on cauliflower rice.

(The shrimp is blurry but Maze is the best part!)

What’s going on this weekend? We have a school event, baptism, and a football game. I hope you have an amazing weekend!

Mold testing! What a fave, right?! I’m continuing to dig into my whole situation, and mold exposure can contribute to gut imbalances and bacterial overgrowth. I know we were exposed to mold when we lived in San Diego – our little house by the beach was like 100 years old – but was curious to see if we had mold exposure here. I bought these little testing pucks and put them in various locations around the house. I won’t post the results (because EW) but we were shocked!!! The worst offenders were our couch and upstairs carpet. We’ve been planning on getting the carpet removed anyway – this just expedited the process – but we were on the computer ordering a new couch that very day.

Which brings us to the next fave:

new couch!
