Teriyaki Pina Colada Burger is our favorite! It’s a secret blend of meat for the juiciest burger, topped with teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple, crispy bacon and a special pina colada sauce.

Cade has created a monster. A real life hamburger monster. Annnd that sounds gross. I’ve never really cared for burgers, but slowly and surely I’m realizing that it’s all about how the burger is made.

In fact I had one in Portland a few years ago that is still one of the best I’ve ever had. Except I had to shower when I got home as all the spices had gotten stuck in my hair and made my hair smell horrid. But it was worth it.

Anyway we’ve been creating quite a few favorite burger recipes like the Brazilian burger and the rest I’ll list at the end of the post so you all can have a list of them. But this teriyaki pina colada burger recipe (which was inspired by the darling Jeana Hammer), well thanks to our 2 secrets for the best burger, is awesome!

How This Recipe Came to Be

This is one of those burgers that you kind of have to trust me on. I know some maybe find it weird that we baste the burger, but trust me, it’s so yum. Good golly it’s good! I mean, if you can make a teriyaki steak (which happens to be a favorite of mine at Tepanyaki grills) then why not a burger?

And then as they were cooking I thought, we just had Maui pork nachos with pina colada sauce which is one of our favorite football foods ever, so why not use the leftover sauce to make a pina colada mayo?! BOOYAH BABY!!

Ingredients for a Teriyaki Pina Colada Burger

Here is what you will need to make these heavenly burgers! This is just meant to given you an overview of the ingredients need. The measurements for each ingredient can be found in the recipe card down below.

  • Brioche Buns – The bun makes all the difference and brioche is soft and fluff but will home up to the sauce and juicy burger.
  • Ground Beef – We recommend using 80/20 or 85/15, but nothing leaner than that. The more fat, the more flavor!
    • This recipe also works great with ground turkey or chicken!
  • Teriyaki Sauce – you could make the sauce homemade or buy your favorite brand at the store
  • Salt and Pepper – added flavor
  • Butter – used to grill the buns
  • Pineapple – that grilled brown sugar glazed pineapple ring is nothing short of heavenly!
  • Pina Colada Sauce – takes this burger to the next level of amazing!
  • Mayonnaise – used to thin out the pina colada sauce just slightly
  • Colby Jack Cheese – You could use any cheese you want, but we love the flavor of colby jack on this one.
  • Bacon – cooked to crispy perfection

What Hamburger Meat is Best?

Cut from the shoulder, ground chuck ranges from 15 to 20 percent fat and has a rich flavor and tender, moist texture.

It is best choice for burgers, but we like to take it to the next level by adding some ground sirloin as well. Ground sirloin is a bit dry by itself in burgers, but it has amazing beef flavor, so we combine the two to get the rich beefy flavor and the juiciness you need in a burger!

When is Hamburger Meat Done?

The interior of a raw hamburger usually does contain bacteria, and is safest if cooked well done.

Because E. coli is killed at 155 degrees Fahrenheit, the USDA sets the minimum safe temperature for ground beef at 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Pina Colada Sauce

The pina colada sauce originally comes from our ham dipping sauce, and you absolutely must try it and the world’s best honey mustard sauce come holiday season.

It turned out so fantabulous! We all agreed that the only thing that would have made it even better would have been to use this brown sugar grilled pineapple, but we were trying to not ingest 5 million calories in one sitting so we decided on plain pineapple.

What to Eat with a Teriyaki Burger

This burger recipe is pretty dang filling so I like to do light sides with it like our watermelon salad or our tomato cucumber salad.

Hot salty french fries are always a hit with burgers too! So you can’t go wrong with those, and a tall glass of lemonade is sure to hit the spot!

Tips for Grilling Hamburgers

  • When forming the patties, make small depression in the middle of each patty so that as they cook, they don’t puff up in the middle.
  • Shape the patties a little bigger than the buns. They will shrink slightly as they cook, so you don’t want them too small.
  • Only flip once! This keeps the burgers nice and juicy.
  • Never, and I mean NEVER, press the tops of the burgers with a spatula. This presses out all the delicious juices.
  • After grilling, let the patties rest for at least 5 minutes to let the juices redistribute.

How Long Will a Hamburger Keep?

Cooked ground beef will keep for 3-4 days in the refrigerator, but hamburgers are just one of those meals that really need to be eaten hot and fresh. They don’t keep well after they have been assembled, so if you do think you’ll have leftover, I’d highly recommend to store everything separately and reheat and assemble right before eating.

Notes

Leaving the core in while cooking will help the pineapple to not fall apart and be easier to turn. Once it’s done use a paring knife or small donut hole cutter to remove the core.
Left overs can be refrigerated for 2-3 days.
