Spaghetti Sauce Ingredients

If you’ve already scrolled down to the recipe card to see what’s in this homemade spaghetti sauce, don’t be worried about the longer ingredient list. Most of the ingredients are herbs you already have in your pantry! Here’s what you’ll need to make this spaghetti sauce recipe:

  • Fresh Tomatoes: I recommend Roma tomatoes for the best flavor.

  • Salt and Black Pepper: adds flavor
  • Onion: adds flavor
  • Baby Bella Mushrooms: adds texture and flavor
  • Red Bell Pepper: adds flavor
  • Mild Italian Sausage: This can be omitted if you want a vegetarian sauce, but it does add great flavor and good protein to the sauce.
  • Fresh Herbs: Parsley, Basil, Rosemary and Oregano – I’ve included the measurements for dried herbs in the recipe card too.
  • Canned Tomatoes: I recommend Cento brand San Marzano tomatoes.

Pickle Ice Cream

Yes, pickle ice cream! No, I’m not crazy! It’s weird and it’s oddly wonderful all at the same time. Somehow it just works.

Pickle Ice Cream

Oh, pickle ice cream. You have not been an easy one to conquer. I tried simmering cream with herbs, tried adding just the brine (good, but not as fun), and finally tried simply adding very finely minced pickles at the end of the churning process.

Plenty of sweet, creamy ice cream flavor with a tangy tart bite from those pickles. We’ve shared this ice cream with so many people now! It’s a hard one to describe and about half the people kept tasting it to decide if it’s a love or a hate thing for them.

My friend and I decided the ice cream was a win and that the chewy little pickle bits were so unexpectedly fun at the end of each bite. Would we eat this every week? Probably not, but live a little and have some fun in the form of pickle ice cream!

Unusual Ice Cream Flavors

And if experimental ice cream flavors ding your chimes, you should try these other combinations we have here on BFK. Some are wild, others are just wildly wondrous or over the top!

In the delightfully over the top category, we have Peach Cobbler Ice Cream. With creamy vanilla ice cream filled with chunks of peach cobbler and cinnamon crust and syrupy peaches in every bite, this ice cream is irresistible.

And coming in as an odd-sounding but positively delightful and divine offering, we have three great flavors.

First, Grape Nut Ice Cream. Creamy sweet vanilla ice cream filled with crunchy, nutty grape nuts? Yes, please! This grape nut ice cream has been an absolute win with family and friends.

Green Beans and Potatoes

Green beans and potatoes would make a great side dish for any holiday dinner you have coming up. And I’m telling you, that bacon just reels people in. It’s irresistible! It complements the green beans and potatoes perfectly.

These pressure cooker green beans and potatoes also could be made just for a simple weeknight meal. Our kids love this dish, and it’s a great way to get some vegetables in their bellies.

Instant Pot Green Beans and Potatoes Ingredients

To make Instant Pot green beans with bacon and potatoes, you’ll need the following:

  • Bacon
  • Red Onion
  • Fresh Garlic
  • Potatoes
  • Butter
  • Green Beans
  • Chicken Broth
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Fresh Parsley

Which Green Beans Should I Buy?

There are a lot of different kinds of green beans. Not all green beans are created equal!  You want to buy haricot vert green beans. Pardon my French there! It is actually French for the long, slender green beans you can find in your produce section.

It is pronounced “heir covair,” not “harry cot vert.”  Although I like to say “harry cot vert” in my brain because it sounds so dang funny! Say “heir covair” in your best French accent and you’ll be impressing all your dinner guests!

Haricot vert are thinner than green beans native to the U.S.A. and are picked at an earlier point in their growth, making them more flavorful.

Which Potatoes Should I Buy?

When all is said and done, really any potato would get the job done here, but Yukon Gold potatoes are our favorite for this dish.  They are smooth and soak in that yummy bacon flavor so well!  They also have a very light and flaky skin, which means you don’t have to peel them.  If you don’t have Yukon Gold in the house, here is our ranking of which potatoes to use:

  1. Yukon Gold Potatoes — golden flesh inside, waxy, buttery flavor

Maple Butter

Simple, two-ingredient maple butter is heaven on earth when it is slathered on warm bread or biscuits fresh from the oven. And happily, it’s as easy as falling off of a log to whip together this perfectly balanced, just-sweet-enough whipped butter spread.

Maple Butter

Everyone knows and loves honey butter, but I think maple butter needs more attention. It’s such a simple way to bring maple goodness to the table whether on bread, biscuits, pancakes, waffles, French toast, or more!

The first time I made this, the butter and an entire loaf of bread were gone in just a matter of hours. That was with only 3 adults in the house. If you have more hungry mouths to feed, I’d recommend doubling the recipe.

This recipe also keeps well in the fridge for a week or so, and in the freezer for up to 3 months for best quality.

Want a special treat for your french toast? Freeze maple butter in an ice cube tray. Once frozen, remove and store in a freezer baggie. Soften as many as you need on a plate on the counter before serving, and then add one cube between two piping-hot pieces of French Toast.

  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, or any chocolate chip or melting chocolate

The measurements and details for each ingredient can be found in the recipe card at the end of the post.

How to Make Chocolate Dipped Truffles

A recipe that only uses 4 ingredients has to be super simple, and this one is! The steps are easy, but just takes some time to let different steps set up. Extra bonus…no candy thermometer needed! Here is what you will do:

  1. Combine: Add the sugar, peanut butter, and butter (or cream cheese) to the bowl of a stand mixer and mix together with the paddle attachment until combine.
    • NOTE: The consistency should be that the dough holds together when you squeeze it in your hand. If it’s too wet, add a little more powdered sugar. If it’s too dry and crumbly, add a little more peanut butter. Keeping the dough chilled and cold and trying not to handle it too much will help a lot!
  2. Scoop: Using a small cookie scoop and your hands, shape the peanut butter mixture into 1/2-3/4 inch balls and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
  3. Chill: Cover loosely and place in the freezer to chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Melt: Place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl and set over a pot of simmering water (or use a double-boiler) and heat until completely melted and smooth.
