Craving the signature taste of Chick fil A nuggets? Skip the drive-thru and the price tag and try this easy homemade recipe with a delicious homemade sauce for the perfect copycat dish.

When our girls were little, Cade would take them on daddy daughter date nights periodically and the girls always picked Chick-fil-A as the place the wanted to eat dinner. I used to love Dairy Queen as a kiddo so I get it. Plus it’s a daddy date so I’m not invited.

When I was little I guess I used to get out of bed a lot and wake up super early. Which is funny because I HATE, DESPISE, DETEST, and VEHEMENTLY PROTEST waking up. I looooove to sleep and take naps. Love it. Anyway, my parents made me a chart when I was like 3 I think. Every day I didn’t get out of bed I got a whale stamp (remember how stamps weren’t all cool yet? It was just an old black ink pad and whale) on the date and after a week I got to go to Dairy Queen. What a treat!

So, I started researching Chick fil-A chicken copycat recipes and experimenting with recipes. Every recipe I saw had pickle juice so I was intrigued. This is a perfect copycat recipe! And my favorite part, it’s a fraction of the cost! Eating out has gotten so dang expensive!

Lasagna Soup is a cold weather favorite - get the recipe at barefeetinthekitchen.com

A steaming hot bowl of Lasagna Soup makes everybody happy at dinnertime.

Soup season is in full swing and I couldn’t be more excited. Since we moved to Ohio, I’ve been looking forward to meals full of all my favorite Soups and Stews as the temperatures drop.

I already have a feeling we’ll be eating many more bowls of this tasty soup on cold nights all winter long!

Easy Lasagna Soup

Lasagna soup is everything you love about a classic Italian lasagna simmered in soup form. My family loves lasagna with lots of meat in it, so I used both hot sausage and ground beef in this soup.

After browning the meat, I added onions, garlic, and tomatoes along with Italian Seasoning. After simmering everything in chicken broth and adding curly mafalda noodles, the soup finishes with the best ingredient of all: lots of cheese.

For the cheese topping, I use a blend of three different kinds of Italian cheeses. The mix of Ricotta, Parmesan, and Mozzarella cheese adds rich, creamy flavors to this soup.

A big scoop of the cheese topping on my bowl of soup made me very happy indeed. Every spoonful of soup was full of tangy tomato, hot sausage, perfectly cooked noodles, and gooey cheese.

Everyone in my family loves this Lasagna Soup. Most of us went back for a second bowl!

When you throw out words like “brie”, “roasted apples”, and “puff pastry”, you automatically start to think that this is mega fancy. Secretly, it’s so dang easy, which makes it perfect for holiday parties!

The melty brie fills the crunchy puff pastry with savory creaminess while the apple adds sweetness. It’s the perfect combination of flavors and textures!

What is Brie?

Brie is a soft, buttery and creamy cheese that originated in France. It is off-white in color and made from cow’s milk. It is rich, fruity and earthy in flavor.

Ingredients for Baked Brie Bites

Most of the ingredients for this baked brie appetizer are items that you buy ahead of time and just assemble. So easy! Here is everything you will need:

  • Apple: Honeycrisp, Envy, Braeburn or any apple you love works great
  • Olive Oil: helps roast the apples
  • Salt: enhances the apple flavor
  • Puff Pastry: just buy it pre-made at the store
  • Brie: grab is in your deli section, you can buy a large wheel of brie or small wheels because they will get cubed
    • You can leave the rind on or remove it.
  • Fig Jam: buy a small jar, I love Trader Joe’s, but any brand works great
    • If you can’t find fig jam, apricot would be a good substitute.
  • Egg and Water: makes an egg wash to help the puff pastry get crispy and golden
  • Cinnamon Pecans: you can make your own or buy them already made at the store
  • Rosemary: fresh is preferred and chop it up little

The details for all the ingredients can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.

Where Do I Find Brie Cheese?

You will want to head to the deli section to find brie. It will usually be sitting out in the cheese display area, near the feta and other cheeses.

Where Do I Find Puff Pastry?

Puff pastry is found in the freezer section of the grocery store near the pie crusts. The most common brand that I see is Pepperidge Farm.

Bostock

Crunchy toasted Brioche topped with jam and almonds creates an irresistible pastry called Bostock.

As simple as it sounds (and is to make) once you’ve tasted it, I’m willing to bet that you’ll be telling everyone about it. I’ll go ahead and call this the Ultimate French Toast in the sense that it puts French toast to shame.

Bostock {Brioche with Almonds} is the ultimate French toast! get the recipe at barefeetinthekitchen.com

Bostock may not sound like the fanciest pastry or bakery treat, but I’m telling you now that this is absolutely positively irresistible.

I tried Bostock for the first time while visiting my friend Rebecca in Western New York several years ago.

There is an amazing bakery called Elm Street Bakery in East Aurora that we visited a couple of times, and their list of tempting treats goes on for days. When I spied the Bostock, I had to try it.

Bostock

Bostock is made with a sweet bread cut into slices and spread with a thin fruit glaze and topped with an almond spread. A sprinkling of sliced almonds goes on top and then it is baked until crispy.

Brioche is the most common bread used for making Bostock, but challah works too and can often be easier to find.

The taste reminds me of Italian Pine Nut Cookies (aka Pignoli Cookies) or these Italian Almond Cookies, which makes sense, as those cookies are made with almond paste as the main ingredient.

I am sitting here struggling for words because I love this so much. I compare it to French Toast, except that it is so much simpler and tastes better by a mile.

I made this recipe twice, in the week after I returned home, and I have been making Bostock on repeat ever since.

As we sat in the bakery, Rebecca and I chatted about how to recreate the Bostock at home. The bread is topped with a toasted frangipane.

All you need to make frangipane is almond meal, sugar, butter, and an egg. It makes a heavenly topping for this Bostock and it literally takes just a few minutes.

While I’m sharing traditional Bostock here in all its glorious almond deliciousness, Rebecca dreamed up a Nutella Raspberry Bostock and shared hers as well.

I’m thinking there are endless flavor combinations possible and we are duty bound to try them all, right?
