Berry Sauce

Warm berry sauce poured over cold ice cream is one of my favorite desserts. I make this sauce year-round and every time I serve it, it gets raves.

This fruit sauce might be the simplest recipe I keep in my dessert recipe notebook. I scribbled it out on a scrap of paper almost 25 years ago while I was visiting a friend.

Homemade Berry Sauce

Berry Sauce from Frozen Berries

We were dishing up bowls of ice cream and her husband told us to wait a minute.

He combined some frozen fruit and a bit of sugar in a saucepan, simmered a few minutes, and then transformed that basic bowl of ice cream into something much more elegant.

I was speechless (yes, imagine that) over the difference the warm fruit sauce made over that dish of ice cream. Sweet berry flavor turned the easy dessert into a cold creamy bowl of heaven.

My whole family gets excited when I pull berries out of the freezer along with a tub of ice cream. Not only is the flavor delicious, but the contrast of warm and cold temperatures is also divine.

I’m all about simple and hassle-free ways to turn basic treats into something that feels a bit more special and this mixed berry sauce does just that.

Berry Sauce for Ice Cream

With so many possible combinations of berries and fruits to use in this sauce, I never get bored with it either.

Lest you think this sauce is only good as an ice cream topping, I also poured this over the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake I made last week. From topping cheesecakes to Greek yogurt to mousse cups or pudding, this berry sauce makes everything better.

Meat Sauce for Spaghetti

Simmering this ground beef spaghetti sauce concentrates the flavors into a delicious harmony of savory and sweet. The tomatoes release natural sugars as they cook, reducing their acidity.

Aromatic ingredients like garlic and onions add depth to this meat sauce for spaghetti, while herbs such as basil, oregano, and thyme bring a touch of earthiness. You will love the way your house smells while making this dish!

The recipe here is very adaptable. I often add sliced mushrooms or chopped bell peppers when I make this. However, as written, the spaghetti meat sauce is a staple for us.

My boys love the heat, so we always use red pepper flakes in this recipe. But, you might want to finish it with red wine, add in other vegetables, or even get daring with your spice cabinet.

If you do end up changing things, please let me know how what worked for you. I’d love to know!

With a bright berry flavor, a stunning red color, and a smooth velvety texture, homemade strawberry sauce beats anything you can buy at the store.

Homemade Strawberry Sauce

Even though I look forward to berry season all year, this sauce can (and frequently does) get made with frozen berries too. So, if you can’t get your hands on perfectly sweet ripe berries right now, don’t worry.

There’s still a batch of homemade strawberry sauce in your future. Making the sauce is as simple as combining berries, a bit of sugar, and a squeeze of lemon in a saucepan. Easy peasy!

Bring it to a boil and then simmer it for a few minutes. It’s as easy as can be to make and you’ll be enjoying it all year long.

Fresh Strawberry Sauce

Once you’ve tried your hand at making a fresh strawberry sauce (and have tasted it!) you’re going to be hooked. Luckily, it’s a fabulously versatile sauce, you’ll find yourself pouring it over all kinds of things.

Drizzle fresh strawberry sauce over pancakes or waffles for a brunch that will leave everyone smiling. Add a spoonful to a bowl of yogurt with granola for a great weekday breakfast.

Warm the sauce and turn it into a strawberry ice cream topping, as we do with this simple berry sauce. Strawberry sauce for cheesecake can be poured over individual slices of cheesecake, or swirled into the batter before baking.

Try using the strawberry sauce as a glaze for grilled chicken or salmon, the savory options are great as well.

Sweet, tart, smooth, and creamy, microwave lemon curd really is possible in just minutes!

When I first saw a recipe for microwave lemon curd, I will admit that I was skeptical. I adore lemon curd, but I am such a slacker about making it. I never want to stand by the stove and stir it for the requisite 15 minutes.

Having tried this now, I may never make lemon curd on the stove again. Microwave lemon curd really works!

Microwave Lemon Curd

This recipe is SO simple, the hardest part is juicing the lemons. And if you’re lucky enough to have a kid who thinks juicing citrus is fun, it’s a total win. (Just don’t tell them it’s work, okay?)

Whisk everything together, microwave for a minute, whisk again, and repeat a couple of times. Try to refrain from drinking the warm lemon curd as it cools.

Did I mention that lemon curd is a weakness of mine? Eating it with a spoon is showing self-control in this house.

Avocado Cream Sauce

Creamy, avocado sauce seasoned lightly with salt, pepper, and lime is one of the simplest recipes I’ve made this year and yet, it stands out as truly amazing.

If you trust me on nothing else, take my word on this recipe, and buy a couple of avocados as soon as possible.

Creamy Avocado Sauce recipe by Barefeet In The Kitchen

Avocado Sauce

If you like guacamole but occasionally find yourself in the need of something with a smoother texture, Avocado Cream Sauce is the recipe you need. It reminds me a little of the taste you get when your guacamole mixes with sour cream in a burrito or taco.

Tangy, smooth, and rich without being heavy, avocado cream sauce is one of my new favorite things.

It pairs well with Mexican and Southwestern Flavors along with just about any kind of meat. Drizzled on top or used as a dipping sauce, there’s no limit to the number of ways you can serve this avocado cream sauce.

Avocado Sauce for Tacos

On top of being completely delicious, this sauce couldn’t be any easier to make. Simply pop two peeled ripe avocados in a blender with sour cream, lime juice, and garlic and blend until smooth.

If you prefer, you can also use Greek yogurt in the avocado cream sauce instead of sour cream. I’ve tried the sauce both ways and enjoyed them equally. If you’re using Greek yogurt just be sure to use a variety that’s both plain AND unsweetened.

I garnished the finished sauce with freshly chopped cilantro leaves but it’s absolutely not necessary. The finished sauce is delicious served just as is.

This sauce stores in well in the fridge for up to two days as long as it’s covered tightly with plastic wrap.

Whenever we make avocado cream sauce it never seems to last long enough to have leftovers to worry about. We ate each and every last drop of the sauce each time I made it.

Equal parts tangy and creamy with a velvety texture, this sauce could also be called “Avocado Crema” if you’re feeling fancy.

Whatever you call it, this sauce is absolutely finger-licking fantastic. The next two recipes I share are going to feature the ultimate meats for dipping into what’s sure to be your new favorite avocado sauce.
