Asian Salad Dressing

It’s no secret that I’m crazy for salads. From Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad to Southwestern Steak Salad I’m all over them.

But today’s dressing is so very good, it’s almost drink-with-a-straw worthy. It’s got just a hint of heat to it, courtesy of the chili paste and -mercy- it is bursting with irresistible flavor.

If you’re anything like me, once you taste this, you’ll be hooked. I found myself dipping carrot and celery sticks in it just so I could keep tasting it. It’s also excellent drizzled on grilled or broiled fish.

To make today’s Thai chili lime dressing, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Please note that the recipe calls for light soy sauce, not regular soy sauce. Light soy sauce is lower in sodium, but not in flavor. If you need to substitute regular soy sauce, just use the same amount specified and be aware it will be ever so slightly saltier.

Sweet Sesame Dressing

This tangy, subtle, umami delivering sweet sesame dressing is a chameleon in the kitchen. Whether you toss it with greens, drizzle it over roasted vegetables, use it as a marinade for meats, or as a base for more complex dressings, you’re going to want to have this on hand all the time.

Sesame Dressing

This Asian sesame dressing is seriously versatile. Poppyseed dressing gets all the love in the seedy dressing category, but I think this dressing should get more attention!

Because while poppyseed dressing is delightful on a salad, its usefulness ends there. This dressing, on the other hand, is just warming up with the salads where it is -admittedly- quite good.

Today’s sesame salad dressing can do it all! It’s a delightfully gentle marinade for fish, chicken, and pork, lending a subtle sweet yet tangy flavor, and a nutty umami that only sesame can provide.

It’s also the bees-knees drizzled over roasted or steamed asparagus, green beans, and potatoes. If you have a jar of this in the refrigerator, you’re able to deliver a gentle pop of flavor to so many things!

To make today’s sesame dressing recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • agave syrup
  • apple cider vinegar
  • tamari sauce*
  • sunflower oil
  • toasted sesame oil

*Tamari sauce, while similar to soy sauce, has its own distinct flavor and characteristics. It is stronger in flavor, less salty, packs more umami, and is a little thicker than soy sauce. It is also often gluten-free, if that is a concern for you.

If you cannot find tamari sauce in your local store and don’t want to order it online, you can substitute soy sauce. Just

Oven Baked Boneless Chicken Thighs

Flavorful and tender marinated boneless skinless chicken thighs can be cooked on the grill or baked in the oven. We eat a great deal of chicken in this house and this is one of my favorite ways to cook boneless skinless thighs in the oven.

With just a little pre-planning, this makes a great weeknight meal. My oldest son compares the taste of this chicken to his favorite restaurant chicken dish, which makes this “fancy” tasting enough for a special occasion meal too, in my book!

Juicy Flavorful Oven Baked Chicken is EASY!

Marinated Chicken Thighs

Boneless skinless chicken thighs soak up all the flavor of this tangy, savory marinade. The marinade itself is a simple blend of soy sauce, vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice, and spices.

After whisking all the ingredients together, just pour the marinade over the chicken thighs and let it marinate.

The more time you can devote to marinating the chicken thighs, the better the flavor will be.

How Long to Marinate Chicken Thighs

I’ve made this chicken many different times now and marinating the chicken for the full 24 hours makes a big difference in the flavor for this recipe.

While the chicken technically takes 24 hours to prepare, nearly all of that time is completely hands-off.

Start the chicken marinating on a Sunday afternoon and you’ll have yourself a delicious Monday night dinner!

You’ll need the following ingredients to make this chicken marinade:

  • olive oil
  • soy sauce
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • red wine vinegar
  • lemon juice
  • dry mustard
  • black pepper

Balsamic Ginger Salmon

Salmon marinated with balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, and fresh ginger creates one of the most flavorful salmon dishes I’ve ever tasted. For a number of years, this was the only seafood meal to consistently receive two thumbs up from my entire family.

Balsamic Salmon

For years, I simply prepared fish by sprinkling it with salt and pepper and then drizzling it with a bit of oil and lemon. We didn’t eat it often enough that I ever felt the need to play with different recipes. I wish I’d known then that there were so many other options!

Over the past ten years or so, my family has eaten more seafood than we would have imagined possible a few years ago. (This happens when your husband is fortunate enough to bring home 100 pounds of fresh fish from Alaska!)

For anyone who is not a big fan of fish for the sake of fish, a marinade is an excellent option for adding more flavors and changing the overwhelming “fish-factor” in the meal. I played with a couple different salmon and balsamic vinegar combinations before running across this one and let me tell you, it is a keeper.

When I made this last week, it was voted “two thumbs up and the best salmon ever” by my oldest two boys. The fact that my youngest ate every bite of his without pausing for chatter is huge praise all by itself.

Baked Salmon with Ginger and Soy Sauce

A simple marinade is a perfect way to impart different flavors to any dish. Salmon is one that does extremely well with a marinade. For this flavorful version whisk together olive oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and salt.

The balsamic, honey, red pepper flakes, and other ingredients create a sticky, sweet heat, Asian-inspired flavor combination.

Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce

This is a sweet and spicy homemade bbq sauce with just enough heat to linger in your mouth. I’ve been slathering this sauce on darn near everything in my kitchen for a few weeks now!

Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce

This barbecue sauce is tangy and sweet, it’s perfect on chicken, as a dipping sauce for potato wedges, with steak bites, and mixed into ranch dressing for a spicy kick.

Best of all, not only can you pronounce all the ingredients, but you can whip it together in your own kitchen in less time than it would take to check out at the grocery store.

As you know, I love a great homemade barbecue sauce, so whenever I find a new one to try and it’s a winner, I have to share it with you.

This barbecue sauce is lightly adapted from Half-Baked Harvest’s Sweet Baby Ray’s Copycat Recipe. And I’ve been told by many that this Sweet and Spicy Homemade Barbecue Sauce tastes just like Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce.

However, in all fairness to Sweet Baby Ray, I think this sauce blows the store-bought version away.

I actually went out and bought a bottle of the original sauce, just to compare the flavors. The store-bought sauce was really tasty, but the flavors here are deeper and I prefer them. (Of course, I can’t think of many instances where a homemade version won’t trump store-bought!)

Ketchup is, of course, the base but the combination of brown sugar, molasses, and apple cider vinegar really brings the sweet to this sauce. Hungarian paprika, known to be sweet and mild adds depth without being overly sweet.
