Chocolate Malt

One taste of a chocolate malt is all it takes to transport me back to childhood. My grandpa used to make chocolate malts for us when we visited and we’d very carefully carry them upstairs and out the second-story door to walk out on the roof and enjoy them. The excitement of being on the roof and also enjoying a frosty chocolate malt milkshake? Oh, that couldn’t be beaten.

This batch of chocolate malt ice cream took me right back to visiting my grandparents in Dewey, AZ in the summertime. There are so many memories attached to the foods we eat and I love when I can make something today that transports me back in time.

The most popular question I get is whether it’s possible to make ice cream without a machine. The answer is YES. You can make ice cream without a machine. Find the full directions here!

Making this ice cream is pretty darn easy. There are no eggs required and you won’t need a custard base for this ice cream. You’ll simply whisk together the cream, cocoa powder, malted milk powder, sugar, and salt in a saucepan and bring it to a simmer.

Stir in the chocolate until it melts, add the milk, and then chill your ice cream base until it’s good and cold. Once the mixture is cool, pour it into the ice cream maker and churn

I have a well-established love of ice cream, with over 150 ice cream recipes here on the website, and yet I still make this simple ice cream recipe at least once a month. There’s a reason why we call this the easiest (and best!) ice cream you will ever make or taste.

Can anyone ever turn down a scoop of rich and creamy homemade ice cream? With just a handful of ingredients, this vanilla ice cream is beyond easy to make and it’s adaptable for whichever add-ins you’re craving.

While ice cream is a staple in our freezer year round, the add-in potentials for this particular ice cream are endless. I’ve filled this ice cream with chunks of brownies, bits of cookie dough, pieces of oatmeal cookies, and swirls of salted caramel sauce.

I try to keep a stash of crumbled cookies, brownies, and other treats in the freezer so that I can toss in a few handfuls whenever I’m churning a batch of ice cream.

I’ve also topped this ice cream with warm chocolate sauce, salted caramel sauce, or my favorite of all, this simple berry sauce. There has yet to be a combination that we didn’t love.

Fresh and creamy strawberry ice cream is sprinkled throughout with Nerds candy to create this super fun Nerds Ice Cream, it’s a completely irresistible kid and adult favorite.

Nerds candy ice cream scooped into bowls

When I stumbled on a question regarding Nerds ice cream a while back, I was immediately intrigued. Nerds candy? I don’t think I’d eaten any Nerds since middle school – at least not that I can recall. Well, I’m happy to tell you that I’m once again hooked on these crunchy, sweet and tart candies. I can’t stop snacking on them now!

And if you also haven’t had Nerds candy since you were a kid, it’s time to change that. (Also – do not buy it from that link, I’m providing it only for the visual aide. Just pick up a box of the candy for a dollar from the grocery store.)

Apparently, there used to be a grape-flavored ice cream with Nerds candy in it. Side note – it turns out that there’s some debate on what the ice cream flavor actually was, but the ice cream was a deep purple-blue color.

So, I tried a couple of different ideas for grape ice cream and well, let’s just say that you can be grateful I’m sparing you that. If I ever nail that one down, I’ll let you know.

I then tried adding Nerds candy to a batch of the best ever vanilla ice cream. That was tasty and my husband and the boys enjoyed it. But it wasn’t “wow-ing” me.

Last, I decided to add some Nerds to a batch of old-fashioned strawberry ice cream. Oh. My. Word. What an awesome combination this turned out to be!

With bright and fresh strawberry flavor churned into the ice cream, it’s a perfect match to the strawberry flavor of Nerds candy. I found myself returning to the freezer repeatedly after I made this batch of ice cream – just to “test” the flavor once more.

This ice cream is as easy to make as it could possibly be. You’ll just blend the strawberries, sugar, salt, vanilla, milk, and cream together until smooth and then pour the mixture into the ice

Bubble Gum Ice Cream

My earliest ice cream memory is a trip to Baskin Robbins with my Grandpa Zintz. This is the grandfather that introduced me to Pralines and Cream ice cream – my forever favorite as an adult, however my taste buds simply did not appreciate its awesomeness as a young child.

I remember ordering a scoop of bubble gum ice cream “in a cup, please” and Grandpa humored me as I carefully saved every tiny piece of bubble gum and took them home with me. Never had I had such richness as a whole little cup half filled with pieces of bubble gum.

I’m not going to lie, the very thought of all that saved bubble gum makes me cringe now. But boy, did it rock my 6-year-old world.

Whether you choose to actually stir in the bubble gum balls or simply have them on the side, the flavors here are so nostalgic, I can’t help grinning.

The most popular question I get is whether it’s possible to make ice cream without a machine. The answer is YES. You can make ice cream without a machine. Find the full directions here!
